AMC, Channel 4 and Kudos have renewed their science fiction show Humans for a second, eight episode season yesterday, continuing their cautionary story of robots in the near future. The new season will pick up after this season’s cliffhanger finale.

AMC indicated that the show attracted a considerable audience in the US and in the UK, and it’s been well received critically. The show has explored a number of prevalent issues in its alternative world where robots have become as ubiquitous as smartphones, exploring ethical and moral issues that confront the people and robots of this world.

“We’re so pleased to announce a second season of ‘Humans’ and extend our terrific partnership with Channel 4, Kudos and the stellar cast, crew and writers Sam and Jonathan,” said Joel Stillerman, president of original programming and development for AMC and Sundance TV. “As one of the year’s top new cable series, ‘Humans’ has been embraced by fans and critics across the U.S. and UK. We’re looking forward to continuing this very captivating story and further exploring the show’s parallel, Synth-filled world that hits so disturbingly close to home.”

There’s no indication of when the new season of Humans will be released: with production starting next year, it’s likely that we’ll see it again a year from now. In the meantime, we’ll have some other robotic shows, such as HBO’s Westworld to look forward to.
