It looks like the Doctor is gearing up for a new regeneration. Matt Smith has officially announced that he's bowing out of Doctor Who at the end of the year. Raise your fish fingers and custard and toast to the good Doctor times Smith has given us.

Smith will be leaving the show after the Christmas special, after which he will be replaced by a new Doctor. The Telegraph offers this quote from Smith's statement about the joys of the Doctor Who fandom:

"The fans of Doctor Who around the world are unlike any other; they dress up, shout louder, know more about the history of the show (and speculate more about the future of the show) in a way that I've never seen before, your dedication is truly remarkable.

"Thank you so very much for supporting my incarnation of the Time Lord, number Eleven, who I might add is not done yet, I'm back for the 50th anniversary and the Christmas special."

It will be sad to say goodbye to the bow ties, but we're curious to see who the next Doctor will be. Who is your dream actor for the next Doctor?
