Kristen Stewart's Trippy New Poster for Spy-fi Flick American Ultra

Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart are super chill and ready to kill on a brand new, exclusive poster for their upcoming actio/spy-fi/romantic comedy American Ultra. The poster, by popular underground artist T.A.Z., will debut at San Diego Comic-Con.

Here’s the new American Ultra poster, exclusively debuted here on io9.

The poster’s mix of artistic expression with real life elements is a great representation of the film, which opens August 21. Eisenberg stars as Mike, a stoner about to propose to his girlfriend Phoebe (Stewart) who is then activated as a sleeper super spy. Think Jason Bourne in the world of Dazed and Confused, which is beautifully represented with the mural title image and characters, rocking shades and pistols. Also, notice the bullets all over the floor and mysterious dead hand in the bottom corner.

If that’s not enough, here’s a second image by T.A.Z, (a.k.a. Jim Evans) whose work you may recognize from album covers for The Beastie Boys, Beck and Aerosmith. He’s also done gig posters for Wu Tang Clan, Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, contributed to Playboy, Skateboard Magazine, and designed movie posters for several films in the Saw franchise. This is also an exclusive.

While the first poster doesn’t need any explanation, the one does. It’s a comic book cover for Apollo Ape, a character Mike creates in the movie who plays a small, but crucial, role. T.A.Z designed this based on the drawings in the film which are, you guessed it, very violent.

The top poster will be available to fans at the Lionsgate booth at Comic-Con which starts Wednesday and runs through Sunday. The second is just cool.

American Ultra, directed by Nima Nourizadeh and written by Max Landis, opens August 21.
